Camurus launches Oczyesa® in Sweden
Camurus has launched Oczyesa® (octreotide subcutaneous depot) in Sweden for maintenance treatment in adults with acromegaly who have responded to and tolerated treatment with somatostatin analogs.1
The launch was marked by a webinar for Swedish healthcare professionals on 22 September, featuring Fredrik Tiberg, Camurus’ President & CEO, on the company's FluidCrystal® technology, Prof. Dr. med. Katharina Schilbach, LMU Klinikum Munich, sharing clinical practice experience from Germany, and Alberto Pedroncelli, Camurus’ Chief Medical Officer, who presented on Oczyesa clinical evidence. The webinar also included insights from patients on living with acromegaly.
“We are pleased to announce the launch of Oczyesa in Sweden, the first once-monthly subcutaneous octreotide treatment for acromegaly designed for easy self-administration using an autoinjector pen”, says Håkan Karmbäck, Country Lead Sweden & Denmark at Camurus. “The product provides sustained disease control and, through the option to self-administration, has the potential to reduce treatment burden, give patients greater flexibility in everyday life and control over their treatment, and free up healthcare resources by reducing the number of clinic visits.”
Acromegaly is a rare, slowly progressive disease, typically caused by a pituitary tumor producing excess growth hormone, leading to abnormal bone and tissue growth and symptoms such as fatigue, joint pain, and visual field defects.2 Left uncontrolled, it is associated with reduced quality of life and increased mortality.3,4
Oczyesa is based on Camurus' FluidCrystal technology and has in clinical studies demonstrated sustained biochemical control and symptom relief.5,6
The product is approved in the EU and UK, with Germany becoming the first launch market in 2025.
